Over the last few weeks, I’ve had an opportunity to bring the Camp Quest NorthWest project to the public’s attention. Besides our initial fundraiser through the Rapture Relief campaign, Seattle Atheists provided information about CQNW at our booths in the Fremont Solstice Fair and Seattle PrideFest. The enthusiasm was encouraging — freethinking families who stopped by the booth were excited to hear about a potential Camp Quest chapter opening in the Pacific Northwest, and we even got a few volunteer sign-ups from both events.
During the Northwest Freethought Coalition’s recent Fourth of July Picnic, a few members of CQNW were present with an information table and literature, and fellow atheists/humanists/freethinkers were just thrilled to learn about a local summer camp. Almost thirty people signed up to either volunteer, send their kids to camp, or both. I love the momentum that’s building — this is the kind of eagerness that will make CQNW a reality. Thank you!
So, where do we go from here?
Now that we know what kind of potential volunteer power we have, I encourage you to stay active and contribute to the camp’s development. If you have a particular talent, interest, advice, etc., to contribute, join us at a planning meeting, and don’t be silent on the email list. And if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact any of the board members. Remember, CQNW is a completely volunteer-run organization, so we need as much help as we can get to bring it to life. We’ve got a great team of volunteers, and we’re looking forward to meeting you. Don’t be shy — come get involved!
